Comparison of the breastfeeding outcomes and self-efficacy in the early postpartum period of women who had given birth by cesarean under general or spinal anesthesia

Fazilet Sahin Kocaoz et al.

Summary: This study compared breastfeeding outcomes and self-efficacy in women who had given birth by cesarean under general anesthesia (GA) or spinal anesthesia (SA). The results showed that women giving birth under SA breastfed their newborn infants earlier, but there was no significant difference in breastfeeding behaviors and self-efficacy between women giving birth under GA and SA.

Maternal Diet and Infant Feeding Practices Are Associated with Variation in the Human Milk Microbiota at 3 Months Postpartum in a Cohort of Women with High Rates of Gestational Glucose Intolerance

Lauren LeMay-Nedjelski et al.

Summary: Maternal consumption of fiber and fat, as well as mother's infant feeding practices, are important determinants of the human milk microbiota composition and predicted function. The overall microbial composition and predicted functions in human milk were associated with maternal fiber intake from grains, total fiber consumption and human milk exclusivity.

Oligosaccharides and Microbiota in Human Milk Are Interrelated at 3 Months Postpartum in a Cohort of Women with a High Prevalence of Gestational Impaired Glucose Tolerance

Lauren LeMay-Nedjelski et al.

Summary: The study found significant associations between maternal characteristics such as prepregnancy BMI, race, and frequency of direct breastfeeding with human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). In secretors, certain HMOs were negatively associated with microbial richness and diversity, while in non-secretors, other HMOs were associated with enrichment of predicted microbial genes encoding for specific pathways. Further research is needed to explore the role of these associations in maternal and infant health.
