Summary: This study compared metabolic and endocrine characteristics in different phenotypic subgroups of women with PCOS, finding higher prevalence of the normoandrogenic phenotype D and adverse metabolic traits in obese women. The occurrence of metabolic syndrome in hyperandrogenic phenotypes was increased, with HDL-C and waist circumference being significant contributing factors. Clinicians should consider both Rotterdam criteria and obesity status for accurate diagnosis and appropriate intervention in PCOS cases.

Serum Anti-Mullerian Hormone Levels Were Negatively Associated With Body Fat Percentage in PCOS Patients

Summary: This study identified a negative correlation between BFP and serum AMH levels for the first time, emphasizing the importance of further investigating the role of BFP, especially in body fat-related AMH changes as they relate to the underlying pathogenesis of PCOS. The results show that elevated BFP is associated with a higher risk of PCOS and that a combination of BFP and serum AMH improves diagnostic accuracy for PCOS. However, a limitation of this study is that all conclusions were based on a small sample size.

The Associations between Sex Hormones and Lipid Profiles in Serum of Women with Different Phenotypes of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between selected serum sex hormones and lipid profiles in women with PCOS, dividing them into different phenotypes, BMI values, and presence of hyperlipidemia. Significant associations were found between phenotype, BMI, hyperlipidemia, and androgen hormone concentrations, as well as changes in SHBG concentrations with triglyceride levels and HDL-C. However, estradiol concentration was not associated with lipid profile parameters. Overall, irregularities in sex hormone concentrations during PCOS may reflect the concentration of SHBG or the ratio of SHBG and total testosterone, rather than a direct association with lipid profile parameters.
