Maternal Obesity and Risk of Low Birth Weight, Fetal Growth Restriction, and Macrosomia: Multiple Analyses

Malgorzata Lewandowska

Summary: The study found that maternal pre-pregnancy obesity is associated with an increased risk of low birth weight, fetal growth restriction, and macrosomia in newborns. Additionally, the risk of macrosomia was three times higher for obese mothers, while the risk of low birth weight was 17 times higher, particularly in the subgroup of normal gestational weight gain. The risk profile showed that higher BMI values were associated with a higher risk of these outcomes, with specific threshold BMI values identified.

Overconsumption of Omega-6 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids (PUFAs) versus Deficiency of Omega-3 PUFAs in Modern-Day Diets: The Disturbing Factor for Their Balanced Antagonistic Metabolic Functions in the Human Body

Abeba Haile Mariamenatu et al.

Summary: Polyunsaturated fatty acids, specifically Omega-3 and Omega-6, play crucial roles in human health, with an imbalance in their intake ratio potentially leading to inflammations and vascular constriction. To mitigate these risks, it is recommended to consume a balanced ratio of Omega-6 and Omega-3 at 4-5/1.
