Implementation of waste silicate glass into composition of ordinary cement for radiation shielding applications

Mohanad S. Eid et al.

Summary: The aim of this study is to investigate the radiation shielding properties of cement samples incorporating waste glass. The mass attenuation coefficient of the samples was determined experimentally and theoretically, and the results were compared to evaluate their accuracy. Mechanical properties and thermogravimetric analysis of the samples were also conducted. The study concluded that the cement sample with 50% waste glass has the highest potential for radiation shielding and provides an effective method for waste glass reuse.

A novel CaO-K2O-Na2O-P2O5 glass systems for radiation shielding applications

Nuha Al-Harbi et al.

Summary: A novel phosphate-based glass system was synthesized for potential dental applications, with non-toxic compounds and specific chemical composition. The glass showed changes in refractive index, direct energy gap, and gamma-ray shielding capacity with varying P2O5 concentrations. The highest linear attenuation coefficient was observed for glass samples with 40 mol% of P2O5, while the lowest was found for glass samples with 60 mol% of P2O5 compounds.

Effect of bulk and nanoparticle Bi2O3 on attenuation capability of radiation shielding glass

M. Elsafi et al.

Summary: Increasing Bi2O3 content in the glass matrix improves shielding capability, with nanoparticles providing greater attenuation compared to bulk Bi2O3. Analysis of mass attenuation coefficients, linear attenuation coefficients, and other values reveal further insights into the material properties. Overall, glass with 20% Bi2O3 nanoparticles showed the most potential for radiation shielding applications.

Experimental and Theoretical Study of Radiation Shielding Features of CaO-K2O-Na2O-P2O5 Glass Systems

M. Sayyed et al.

Summary: Experimental studies on the gamma radiation shielding ability of CaO-K2O-Na2O-P2O5 glasses reveal different values for the effective atomic number, mean free path, and half value layer as energy levels vary. Decreasing P2O5 content in the glasses enhances radiation protection efficiency. Among the samples, KCNP40 shows the best potential for photon attenuation applications.

Dalal Abdullah Aloraini et al.

Summary: The experimental study on Bi2O3-CaO-K2O-Na2O-P2O5 glass systems showed that the addition of Bi2O3 increases the mass and linear attenuation coefficients, leading to better shielding capabilities. Furthermore, glass with 10 mol% of Bi2O3 requires a smaller thickness to shield radiation effectively, as indicated by the results of half value layer measurements.
