Silver Nanocubes as Electrochemical Labels for Bioassays

Yi Peng et al.

Summary: This study utilized 40+/-4 nm silver nanocubes as electrochemical labels in bioassays, demonstrating that changing the shape of the Ag label from spherical silver nanoparticles to AgNCs can achieve a lower limit of detection and increase the exchange efficiency. The optimized electrochemical system reached a detection limit of 0.1 pM AgNCs, which is an order of magnitude lower than that of sAgNP labels.

Ersan Turunc et al.

Summary: In this study, a method for synthesizing silver nanoparticles using Cupressus sempervirens L. (CSPE) pollen extract as reducing and stabilizing agent was evaluated. The optimized reaction conditions were determined by investigating various parameters such as volume of CSPE, temperature, and reaction time. The electrochemical behavior of the biosynthesized AgNPs and the performance of the constructed electrochemical sensor were studied, showing good detection capabilities for hydrogen peroxide. Additionally, the biosynthesized AgNPs exhibited good antioxidant activity against DPPH free radicals.

Potential cytotoxicity of silver nanoparticles: Stimulation of autophagy and mitochondrial dysfunction in cardiac cells

Azmat Ali Khan et al.

Summary: This study elucidated the potential cytotoxicity of AgNPs in rat cardiomyoblasts, showing that exposure to AgNPs decreased cell viability in a dose-dependent manner, induced apoptosis, and led to ROS-mediated autophagy. The addition of NAC inhibited autophagy and reduced the cytotoxicity of AgNPs, suggesting a potential health risk associated with AgNPs exposure to cardiac cells.
