Analysis of thermodynamic parameters for designing quasicrystalline Al-Ni-Fe alloys with enhanced corrosion resistance

Rafal Babilas et al.

Summary: The compositions of Al-Ni-Fe alloys were determined based on thermodynamic parameters optimization, with the formation of quasicrystals requiring equilibrium of configurational entropy and enthalpy in solid solution formation. The Fe concentration affected the crystallization mechanism, and Fe local environment was described by Mossbauer spectroscopy. Quasicrystalline phases were found to significantly improve corrosion resistance in the alloys studied.

Radiation Effects in Amorphous Metallic Alloys as Revealed by Mossbauer Spectrometry: Part I. Neutron Irradiation

Marcel B. Miglierini

Summary: Iron-based amorphous metallic alloys exhibit excellent magnetic properties under neutron irradiation, with changes in local microstructure observed through Mossbauer spectroscopy. Neutron irradiation leads to rearrangement of constituent atoms, clustering, and formation of stress centers, resulting in modifications of spectral parameters.
