Facile route to bulk ultrafine-grain steels for high strength and ductility

Junheng Gao et al.

Summary: Bulk ultrafine-grained steel is prepared by an approach that involves the rapid production of coherent, disordered nanoprecipitates, which restrict grain growth but do not interfere with twinning or dislocation motion, resulting in high strength and ductility. This method can be extended to other alloy systems and easily applied to existing industrial production lines.

Enhanced ferroelectricity for nanoporous barium titanate: a phase-field prediction

Chengmin Xie et al.

Summary: The study utilized a phase-field model to simulate the evolution of ferroelectric domain structure in porous barium titanate, revealing that properties of porous ceramics are strongly influenced by porosity level and pore size. The introduction of symmetry breaking mechanisms in nanoporous ferroelectrics with ellipse-shaped pores was shown to enhance ferroelectric switching behavior, remnant polarization, dielectric constant, and piezoelectric constant, potentially expanding the applications of ferroelectrics and improving material utility for specific purposes.
