Preparation of low-cost activated carbons from amazonian nutshells for CO2 storage

Jaroslaw Serafin et al.

Summary: Low-cost carbonaceous adsorbents with microporous structures and moderate specific surface area were prepared from different amazonian nutshells for CO2 storage. The micropore structure of the activated carbons significantly impacts CO2 adsorption capacity, with mesoporosity contributing to higher capture at high pressure.

Yantus A. B. Neolaka et al.

Summary: This study reports the use of Kesambi wood to prepare activated carbon mesoporous adsorbents for lead adsorption in water, with characteristics and performance evaluated through various instruments. The adsorption mechanism was found to follow pseudo-second-order kinetics and Langmuir isotherm, with an exothermic and physisorption process observed. The irregularity of the adsorption system surface decreased during the adsorption process.

Selective synthesis of camphene from isomerization of α- and β-pinene over heterogeneous catalysts

Julian E. Sanchez-Velandia et al.

Summary: Selective synthesis of fine chemicals from wasted derived biomass is a major challenge for the industry, and in this study, materials based on titanates proved to be effective catalysts for isomerization reactions of biomass derived alpha- and beta-pinene to obtain camphene. The density of acid sites, Bronsted acid sites, and catalyst architecture significantly influenced the catalytic activity, with titanate catalyst showing the highest yield for camphene. Furthermore, titanate-based materials were also capable of isomerizing camphene and limonene into valuable chemicals with good to excellent yields.
