Experimental and statistical investigation of the effect of cutting parameters on surface roughness, vibration and energy consumption in machining of titanium 6Al-4V ELI (grade 5) alloy

Harun Akkus et al.

Summary: This study aimed to improve energy efficiency in turning operations by experimenting with turning titanium alloy. The research found that feed rate is the most influential parameter on surface quality, vibration, and energy consumption, with increases in vibration leading to higher surface roughness and energy consumption. The Taguchi models created were able to make accurate estimations, with surface roughness at about 82%, vibration at about 89%, and energy consumption at about 98%.

Machinability of wood fiber/polyethylene composite during orthogonal cutting

Xiaolei Guo et al.

Summary: The study investigated the machinability of wood fiber/polyethylene composite material and found that the cutting depth affects the cutting efficiency and surface quality. Shallow cutting depth results in continuous cutting governed by a continuous shearing process, while deep cutting depth leads to discontinuous cutting governed by plastic fracture.

Cutting Forces in Peripheral Up-Milling of Particleboard

Bartosz Palubicki

Summary: The study introduces a novel method for processing high-frequency piezoelectric force signals to analyze single chip cutting force courses in industrial CNC milling. Results indicate that higher cutting speeds lead to higher cutting forces. The cutting thrust force in peripheral up-milling of particleboard is similar to that observed in solid wood milling.

Surface Roughness Evaluation in Thin EN AW-6086-T6 Alloy Plates after Face Milling Process with Different Strategies

Daniel Chuchala et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the effect of removing the outer material layers of aluminium alloy sheets on surface roughness after face milling. Significant differences in surface roughness were found among different machining strategies and rolling directions, but these differences were not statistically significant. The position of the face cutter axis during the machining process was observed to have a significant effect on surface roughness.

Xiaoxing Yan et al.

Summary: The study observed the performance changes of water-based topcoat paint film with self-healing microcapsules on wood surface, with increasing microcapsule content resulting in variations in color difference, hardness, gloss, adhesion, impact resistance, and tensile strength. Microcapsules with a core-wall ratio of 0.67:1 showed better micromorphology and exhibited a certain repair effect. Adding microcapsules to the water-based topcoat paint film can provide technical guidance for prolonging the service life of furniture surface coatings.
