Gut microbial metabolites as multi-kingdom intermediates

Kimberly A. Krautkramer et al.

Summary: The gut microbiota influences host physiology through the production of various metabolites. By studying microbial metabolites, researchers have identified potential microbial targets relevant for host health, despite the challenges of understanding host-microbiota interactions.

Protective Effects of Microbiome-Derived Inosine on Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Acute Liver Damage and Inflammation in Mice via Mediating the TLR4/NF-κB Pathway

Weiling Guo et al.

Summary: The research assessed the protective effects of inosine on liver injury and inflammation by modulating the intestinal microbiota structure and TLR4/NF-kappa B signaling pathway in LPS-treated mice. Inosine pretreatment significantly reduced inflammatory factors secretion, ALT and AST levels, and improved antioxidant enzyme activity and relative abundance of certain genera. The results suggest that inosine pretreatment has the potential for preventing LPS-induced acute liver damage through its regulatory effects on both intestinal microbiota and hepatic signaling pathways.

Structural specificities of cell surface β-glucan polysaccharides determine commensal yeast mediated immuno-modulatory activities

Changhon Lee et al.

Summary: In this study, a specific yeast-derived polysaccharide (MGCP) was found to induce Treg cells through the Dectin1-Cox2 signaling axis in dendritic cells, and suppress Th1 cell differentiation through a TLR2-dependent mechanism. This demonstrates a strong potential for MGCP to inhibit inflammation in various inflammatory disease models.

Gut microbiota from green tea polyphenol-dosed mice improves intestinal epithelial homeostasis and ameliorates experimental colitis

Zhenhua Wu et al.

Summary: The study found that oral EGCG helps alleviate colonic inflammation by increasing the abundance of Akkermansia, a short-chain fatty acids-producing bacteria, and promoting SCFAs production. Prophylactic supplementation of EGCG also showed beneficial outcomes. FMT experiments confirmed the role of EGCG in attenuating colitis.
