Reducing Surface Recombination Velocity of Methylammonium-Free Mixed-Cation Mixed-Halide Perovskites via Surface Passivation

Sarthak Jariwala et al.

Summary: By passivating nonradiative defects with APTMS, we controlled surface recombination in mixed-cation, mixed-halide perovskite, achieving high external photoluminescence quantum efficiencies and long minority carrier lifetimes. Our study suggests that surface passivation and contact engineering can enable near-theoretical device efficiencies with these materials, addressing nonradiative loss pathways in mixed-cation mixed-halide films.

Combining Modulated Techniques for the Analysis of Photosensitive Devices

Agustin O. Alvarez et al.

Summary: Small-perturbation techniques such as IS, IMPS, and IMVS are useful tools for characterizing and modeling photovoltaic and photoelectrochemical devices. A unified theoretical framework and procedure to combine the spectral analysis of these techniques greatly reduce the sample space of possible equivalent circuits, allowing for parameters to be obtained with high reliability by considering absorptance and separation efficiency.

Defect tolerant device geometries for lead-halide perovskites

Basita Das et al.

Summary: The term defect tolerance is widely used to describe materials such as lead-halides perovskites, where solution-processed thin films exhibit long lifetimes. Studies on defect tolerance focus on the properties of materials and the nature of defects affecting capture coefficients. The recombination activity of a defect not only depends on capture coefficients but also on the electrostatics and design of a photovoltaic device. Studying the influence of device geometry on defect tolerance, generic design principles are derived to inhibit recombination by modifying electron and hole injection. Illustrating with methylammonium lead halide perovskite solar cells, the generic design principles can be applied to improve specific devices.
