A protective superhydrophobic Mg-Zn-Al LDH film on Surface-Alloyed Magnesium

Summary: A novel method was developed to fabricate a protective superhydrophobic LDH film on a Zn-Al alloyed surface of AZ31 Mg alloy. The film provided corrosion and mechanical protection for the substrate magnesium alloy, while additional modification allowed for changing the surface properties to super-hydrophobicity. Experimentally verified long-term anti-corrosion performance, super-hydrophobicity, wear resistance, chemical stability, and adhesion strength of the modified LDH film.

Effect of processing history on corrosion behaviours of high purity Mg

Summary: The study systematically analyzed the effects of processing history on corrosion behaviors of pure Mg with controlled impurity content. It was found that impurity Fe and Si precipitated into the Fe-Si phase by heat treatment prior to extrusion, leading to severe micro-galvanic corrosion of as-extruded pure Mg. This suggests that control of the actual tolerance limit, considering both impurity content and processing history, is required in designing alloys.

Fabrication of Ag containing antibacterial PEO coatings on pure Mg

Summary: Antibacterial plasma electrolytic oxidation coatings incorporating partially oxidized Ag particles on pure Mg effectively inhibit the growth of S. aureus, with the antibacterial efficiency mainly dependent on the Ag concentration in the layer. The antibacterial rate of the coating can reach 99% and remain stable when sufficient Ag particles (above 1 wt%) are incorporated.
