Chromium-Catalyzed Selective Dimerization/Hydroboration of Allenes to Access Boryl-Functionalized Skipped (E,Z)-Dienes

Yinsong Zhao et al.

Summary: A chromium-catalyzed reaction has been developed for the synthesis of boryl-functionalized skipped dienes. By utilizing a dimerization/hydroboration process, the target product can be obtained efficiently and with good selectivity. EPR spectroscopic studies suggest that the reaction proceeds through a chromium(I) hydride intermediate.

Orthogonal Regulation of Nucleophilic and Electrophilic Sites in Pd-Catalyzed Regiodivergent Couplings between Indazoles and Isoprene

Wen-Shuang Jiang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates an orthogonal regulation of nucleophilic and electrophilic sites in the regiodivergent hydroamination of isoprene with indazoles. By choosing appropriate ligands for electrophilic sites on isoprene and acid co-catalysts for nucleophilic sites on indazoles, different insertion pathways can be controlled. Preliminary experimental studies have been conducted to rationalize the mechanism and regioselectivity, providing insights into the selective functionalization of isoprene and N-functionalization of indazoles.

Nickel-Catalyzed Regioselective Arylboration of Conjugated Dienes

Haoyang Li et al.

Summary: The nickel-catalyzed arylboration of conjugated dienes was reported with good selectivity achieved through the use of appropriate nitrogen-based ligands, and wide functional group tolerance observed under mild reaction conditions. Downstream transformation of allyl boronic esters was achieved, indicating a strategy for diastereoselective 1,2-difunctionalization of isoprene and demonstrating the potential for synthesis of complex molecules.

Regio- and Trans-Selective Ni-Catalyzed Coupling of Butadiene, Carbonyls, and Arylboronic Acids to Homoallylic Alcohols under Base-Free Conditions

Yu-Qing Li et al.

Summary: This Ni-catalyzed three-component coupling reaction provides a general synthetic approach to 1,4-disubstituted homoallylic alcohols, which were previously difficult to access. The reaction is regioselective, trans-selective, and can tolerate highly base-sensitive functional groups under neutral conditions.

Redox Activity of Pyridine-Oxazoline Ligands in the Stabilization of Low-Valent Organonickel Radical Complexes

Clifton L. Wagner et al.

Summary: Low-valent organonickel radical complexes are common intermediates in cross-coupling reactions and metalloenzyme-mediated processes. The electronic structures of N-ligand supported nickel complexes appear to vary depending on the actor ligands and the coordination number. The excellent capability of pyrox in stabilizing electron-rich Ni species resonates with its proclivity in promoting the reductive activation of C(sp(3)) electrophiles in cross-coupling reactions.

Ten-Step Asymmetric Total Synthesis of (+)-Pepluanol A

Po Yuan et al.

Summary: The first asymmetric synthesis of pepluanol A was achieved using a concise route with a stereoconvergent intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction. The key step involved a Nozaki-Hiyama-Kishi reaction to connect the enone system and diene, followed by a stereoconvergent IMDA reaction to furnish the natural product carboskeleton in 7 steps. The reactions were carried out successfully on a gram scale up to an advanced intermediate, including the stereoconvergent intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction.

Modular Synthesis of Diarylalkanes by Nickel-Catalyzed 1,1-Diarylation of Unactivated Terminal Alkenes

Zheqi Li et al.

Summary: A nickel-catalyzed 1,1-diarylation of electronically unbiased alkenes has been developed, providing straightforward access to diarylalkanes from readily available materials. The efficiency and regioselectivity of this transformation are ensured by reaction conditions, rather than the coordinating group of substrates. Preliminary mechanistic experiments suggest that this transformation involves a Ni(0)/Ni(II) catalytic cycle rather than a Ni(I)/Ni(III) cycle.
