Platelike MFI Crystals with Controlled Crystal Faces Aspect Ratio

Weijiong Dai et al.

Summary: A simple synthetic strategy was developed to reduce the thickness of zeolite crystals along the b-axis, providing a short diffusion path along the straight channel. The synthesized MFI crystals, with micrometer-size along the a- and c-axis and thickness in the tens of nanometers along the b-axis, showed good catalytic activity in the methanol-to-hydrocarbons reaction. The synthesis of platelike MFI crystals was successfully scaled up to a kilogram scale, demonstrating extended catalytic lifetime compared to commercial nanosized samples.

Interzeolite Conversion and the Role of Aluminum: Toward Generic Principles of Acid Site Genesis and Distributions in ZSM-5 and SSZ-13

Julien Devos et al.

Summary: The performance of zeolite catalysts relies on the strength and distribution of Bronsted acid sites. By studying synthesis factors and mechanisms, as well as using divalent cation capacity measurements to investigate the distribution and evolution of acid sites, control over zeolite acidity and ion-exchange properties can be achieved. Aluminum plays a key role in interzeolite conversion (IZC) syntheses, with proposed principles to differentiate between Al-loving and Al-averse systems for tailoring catalytic activity.

Acidity and Local Confinement Effect in Mordenite Probed by SolidState NMR Spectroscopy

Ke Gong et al.

Summary: The study comprehensively investigated the acidity and host-guest interactions of H-mordenite zeolites using solid-state NMR spectroscopy and theoretical calculation. It revealed the locations and configurations of Bronsted acid sites in H-MOR through NMR experiments, and characterized the confinement effect of dual pores in MOR through the determination of host-guest interactions between CH3CN and BASs. Additionally, the study found two types of acetonitrile molecules in 12MR channels with distinct mobility, and showed that temperature can influence the exchange between these two types.

Effect of the Co-cation on Cu Speciation in Cu-Exchanged Mordenite and ZSM-5 Catalysts for the Oxidation of Methane to Methanol

Gordon Brezicki et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the identity of the co-cation (H vs Na) significantly influences the Cu speciation and reactivity in Cu-MOR and Cu-ZSM-S catalysts. The choice of co-cation can be used to control active site structure and affect the selectivity of methane conversion to methanol.

Copper-exchanged large-port and small-port mordenite (MOR) for methane-to-methanol conversion

Amy J. Knorpp et al.

Summary: In the stepwise conversion of methane to methanol, the selection and synthesis of parent mordenite are crucial for optimizing productivity. It was found that large-port mordenite performs better than small-port mordenite in this process.

Conversion of Polyolefin Waste to Liquid Alkanes with Ru-Based Catalysts under Mild Conditions

Julie E. Rorrer et al.

Summary: Chemical upcycling of waste polyolefins via hydrogenolysis using Ru/C catalysts demonstrates high activity and selectivity in the conversion of polyethylene into liquid alkanes and light alkane gases under mild conditions. The study also shows the feasibility of producing C-7-C-45 alkanes from long chain, low-density polyethylene and postconsumer LDPE plastic bottles, providing promising pathways for plastic waste valorization using Ru-based catalysts.
