Plasma Hsp90 levels in patients with systemic sclerosis and relation to lung and skin involvement: a cross-sectional and longitudinal study

Hana Storkanova et al.

Summary: According to the study, plasma levels of Hsp90 are increased in patients with systemic sclerosis compared to healthy controls, and are associated with increased inflammatory activity, worsened lung function, and extent of skin involvement in patients with diffuse cutaneous systemic sclerosis. In patients with systemic sclerosis-associated interstitial lung disease treated with cyclophosphamide, baseline Hsp90 levels can predict changes in DLCO over 12 months of therapy.

Genome-wide identification of Aedes albopictus long noncoding RNAs and their association with dengue and Zika virus infection

Azali Azlan et al.

Summary: This study identified and characterized lncRNAs in the genome of the Asian tiger mosquito, and found their potential involvement in DENV and ZIKV infection. Mutations in specific lncRNA loci using CRISPR-Cas9 resulted in enhanced replication of DENV and ZIKV, suggesting a role of lncRNAs in virus infection. The findings provide a foundation for further research on lncRNAs and their interaction with viruses in Asian tiger mosquitoes.

Optimized CRISPR tools and site-directed transgenesis towards gene drive development in Culex quinquefasciatus mosquitoes

Xuechun Feng et al.

Summary: Culex mosquitoes serve as a global vector for insect-borne diseases, but progress with genetic tools lags behind other mosquito species. This study introduces a Cas9-based toolkit and methods that could potentially support future gene drive development in these mosquitoes.
