COVID-19 patients in intensive care develop predominantly oliguric acute kidney injury

Tomas Luther et al.

Summary: The majority of COVID-19 patients admitted to the ICU develop AKI, with a high proportion of oliguric AKI. Although urinary biomarkers are generally elevated in patients, they do not robustly predict the severity of AKI. Additionally, renal replacement therapy was used in 16% of patients and the 30-day mortality rate was 28% in this study cohort.

An immune-based biomarker signature is associated with mortality in COVID-19 patients

Michael S. Abers et al.

Summary: Immune and inflammatory responses are important factors contributing to disease severity in COVID-19. This study identified specific immune-based biomarkers associated with mortality in COVID-19 patients, with some biomarkers consistently higher in those who died compared to those who recovered, suggesting their potential for early prediction of disease outcome.
