Feasibility of the Cognitive Model for Behavioral Interventions in Older Adults with Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia

Erol Ekiz et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to develop an individually tailored, non-pharmacological treatment model, the Cognitive Model for Behavioral Interventions (CoMBI), for patients with Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD) and comorbid maladaptive personality traits (CMPT), and to explore its feasibility and effectiveness. The CoMBI model was implemented in two geriatric psychiatric inpatient wards in the Netherlands and demonstrated significant decrease in challenging behaviors, showing its potential as a feasible treatment model for patients with BPSD and CMPT. Focusing on personality and associated core needs could have a key role in the non-pharmacological treatment of the elderly with BPSD.

The identification of a risk profile for young people with borderline personality pathology: a review of recent literature

Joost Hutsebaut et al.

Summary: This paper aims to provide a risk profile for BPD by systematically reviewing literature on potential risk markers for poor prognosis. Evidence for seven categories of risk factors was revealed: adverse childhood experiences, BPD symptom profile, associated mental disorders, personality impairments and traits, current interpersonal context, biological disposition and socio-demographics. Including these markers within the current staging approach may assist in personalizing treatment for young people with BPD.
