Experimental Investigation on Mechanical and Biodegradation Properties of Indian Almond-Kenaf Fiber-Reinforced Hybrid Composites for Construction Applications

E. Narayanan Nampoothiri et al.

Summary: Tri-layer hybrid composites composed of Indian almond and kenaf fibers were fabricated using the hand layup method. Two types of hybrid composites, K/I/K and I/K/I, were prepared and tested for their mechanical properties and durability. The results showed that the K/I/K composite, with high-strength kenaf fibers as the outer layer, exhibited the highest tensile and flexural strength, while the I/K/I composite, with Indian almond fibers as the outer layer, showed the highest impact strength and moisture absorption rate.

Influence of Parthenium Hysterophorus and Impomea Pes-caprae Fibers Stacking Sequence on the Performance Characteristics of Epoxy Composites

Vijay Raghunathan et al.

Summary: By varying the stacking sequence of natural fibers like Parthenium hysterophorus and Impomea pes-caprae, the application suitability of composites is increased. The mechanical properties and water absorption of the composites were enhanced using this method, making them suitable for lightweight medium load applications. Morphological studies using Scanning Electron Microscope provided insight into the fiber bonding and void characteristics of the tested composites.
