Natural History of Cutaneous Human Polyomavirus Infection in Healthy Individuals

Luisa Bopp et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the cutaneous prevalence, persistence, and viral load of HPyVs in healthy individuals, finding several risk factors associated with HPyV prevalence and persistence. TSPyV, HPyV9, and HPyV10 do not appear to be long-term constituents of the human skin virome in healthy individuals. Higher viral loads were found to be associated with both short- and long-term persistence of HPyVs on the skin. Multiplicity of HPyVs was identified as a risk factor for prevalence and persistence for several types of HPyVs.
