A new species of hermit crab, Diogenes matabiru, is described and illustrated based on specimens collected from mangroves in eastern Lombok Island, Indonesia. This species is related to D. pallescens Whitelegge, 1897 but differs in its cheliped shape, telson, and coloration in life. A key to species of the Diogenes genus from Indonesia is provided.
