Modeling Multiphase Flow Within and Around Deformable Porous Materials: A Darcy-Brinkman-Biot Approach

Francisco J. Carrillo et al.

Summary: The study presents a new computational fluid dynamics approach for simulating two-phase flow in hybrid systems with deformable porous matrices. The method accurately captures the strong coupling between multiple fluids and deformable porous media and shows versatility in modeling multiscale multiphase flow.

Multiscale Digital Rock Analysis for Complex Rocks

L. C. Ruspini et al.

Summary: The properties of complex rocks are influenced by heterogeneity at different scales, making it challenging to capture all relevant length scales in detail with standard digital rock analysis tools. A multiscale imaging and pore-scale modeling workflow is introduced to derive transport properties of complex rocks with broad pore size distributions. This workflow categorizes unresolved porosity regions, combines 3D rock-type and porosity maps, and treats unresolved network elements as a continuum Darcy-type porous medium. The methodology is successfully applied to heterogeneous rock samples with promising results in predicting transport properties.
