Progression of shallow medial femoral condyle radiographic lucencies in Thoroughbred repository radiographs and their influence on future racing careers

Marcos Perez-Nogues et al.

Summary: Shallow lucencies in the medial femoral condyle of Thoroughbred horses undergoing screening sales radiographs are common. These shallow defects may either fully resolve or develop into cysts, but most do not change in size. Horses with lucencies in the medial femoral condyle had significantly fewer starts as 2-year-olds compared to their maternal siblings without stifle pathology.
