Effects of heat treatment on microstructure and mechanical properties of selective laser melted Ti-6Al-4V lattice materials

Nan Jin et al.

Summary: The study investigates the relationship between microstructure and mechanical properties of titanium lattice materials fabricated by selective laser melting (SLM) with different heat treatments. The results show that the bending-dominated structure BCC is more sensitive to heat treatment conditions, with the optimal temperatures being 920 degrees C for BCC and 750 degrees C for FCC. A numerical simulation model was also established to depict the relationship between the mechanical properties of the base material and the lattice materials.

On the hot deformation behavior of Ti-6Al-4V made by additive manufacturing

Markus Bambach et al.

Summary: This study investigates the hot working behavior of Ti-6Al-4 V samples produced using DEO and SLM methods, highlighting differences in flow stress and microstructure evolution between conventional and AM materials. A model is proposed to predict flow stresses and microstructure evolution in Ti-6Al-4 V specimens with conventional and AM microstructures, which takes the spatial arrangement into account. These findings can be utilized to design new process chains for single-stage net-shape forging of Ti-6Al-4 V parts with reduced forming forces and improved mechanical properties.

Additive manufacturing of multiple layered materials (Ti6Al4V/316L) and improving their tribological properties with glow discharge surface modification

H. Tekdir et al.

Summary: The study aimed to improve the mechanical and tribological properties of AISI 316L stainless steel components manufactured by SLM and plasma oxidation treatment. The results showed that the Ti6Al4V layered and plasma-oxidized samples exhibited better hardness and wear resistance than uncoated 316L samples due to the formation of titanium oxide phases and diffusion zone depth, with the highest hardness value leading to the best wear resistance.
