Biofilm and cell adhesion strength on dental implant surfaces via the laser spallation technique

J. D. Boyd et al.

Summary: The study quantifies adhesion strength differences between oral bacterial biofilms and osteoblast-like cell monolayers on dental implant-simulant surfaces using laser spallation technique. The proposed Adhesion Index serves as a metric for biocompatibility assessment, with values >1 indicating favorable biocompatibility.

Effects of surface roughening on antibacterial and osteogenic properties of Ti-Cu alloys with different Cu contents

Wei Zhang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that Ti-xCu alloys treated with HF etching + anodization exhibit excellent antibacterial and osteogenic properties. Increasing Cu content contributes to enhanced antibacterial and osteogenic performance, although high Cu content alloys show lower cell proliferation rates and higher early cell apoptosis rates.

Roughness and correlations in the transition from island to film growth: Simulations and application to CdTe deposition

Tung B. T. To et al.

Summary: Using kinetic Monte Carlo simulations, the relationship between morphological properties and microscopic dynamics during island growth, coalescence, and initial formation of continuous heteroepitaxial films is studied. The average island width is controlled by adatom mobility on the substrate, and subsequent evolution strongly depends on the Ehrlich-Schwoebel energy barrier E-ES of the deposited material.
