Rapid Detection of COVID-19 Using MALDI-TOF-Based Serum Peptidome Profiling

Ling Yan et al.

Summary: This study developed a high-throughput serum peptidome profiling method based on MALDI-TOF MS for efficient detection of COVID-19. With a logistic regression machine learning model consisting of 25 feature peaks, the highest accuracy (99%), sensitivity (98%), and specificity (100%) were achieved, showing great potential for screening, routine surveillance, and diagnosis of COVID-19 in large populations.

RT-PCR/MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry-based detection of SARS-CoV-2 in saliva specimens

Matthew M. Hernandez et al.

Summary: The authors successfully detected SARS-CoV-2 in saliva specimens using a highly sensitive experimental method, showing good sensitivity and specificity. They also determined the limit of detection of the method and found that the N2 target in saliva was the most sensitive. Overall, the system demonstrated comparable performance in detecting SARS-CoV-2 in saliva as compared to traditional real-time RT-PCR assays.
