Seasonal Response of Daphnia pulex to Cyanobacterial Extracts at Different Temperatures in Valle de Bravo Reservoir (Mexico)

S. Nandini et al.

Summary: Valle de Bravo reservoir provides water supply for 40% of Mexico City. The research on Daphnia pulex shows that its tolerance to cyanotoxins depends on the bloom-forming species and temperature. Results indicate that Daphnia is more adversely affected at higher temperatures and by extracts from Microcystis blooms compared to Woronichinia.

Cyanobacterial anabaenopeptin-B, microcystins and their mixture cause toxic effects on the behavior of the freshwater crustacean Daphnia magna (Cladocera)

Barbara Pawlik-Skowronska et al.

Summary: The study showed that AN-B exhibited significant toxicity towards Daphnia, similar to MC-LR and MC-LF. The mixture of AN-B and MC-LR was found to be more toxic than individual oligopeptides. This suggests that cyanobacterial extracts containing a combination of AN-B and microcystins may pose a greater threat to aquatic organisms than individual microcystins.
