CFD Simulation of CO2 Capture in a Microchannel by Aqueous Mixtures of MEA and [Bmim]BF4 Modified with TiO2 Nanoparticles

Summary: A novel aqueous solvent NEIL is proposed for CO2 capture by mixing MEA with [Bmim]BF4 ionic liquid and TiO2 nanoparticles, and its flow hydrodynamics, mass transfer characteristics, and CO2 absorption performance are investigated in a T-shaped microchannel structure. The study shows that TiO2 weight fraction of 0.04% maximizes purification fraction, while high nanoparticle content in the solvent decreases purification fraction. The proposed solvent and contactor demonstrate adequate performance in absorbing CO2 from gas mixture.
