Surgical Outcomes, Technical Performance, and Surgery Burden of Robotic Total Gastrectomy for Locally Advanced Gastric Cancer A Prospective Study

Qi-Yue Chen et al.

Summary: This study compared the short-term outcomes of robotic total gastrectomy (RTG) and laparoscopic total gastrectomy (LTG) in gastric cancer patients. The results showed that the RTG group had lower intraoperative blood loss, retrieved more extraperigastric lymph nodes, and had fewer errors during surgery compared to the LTG group. Additionally, the RTG group had a higher technical skill score, lower surgery task load index, and there was no significant difference in postoperative morbidity between the two groups.

Reduction in postoperative complications by robotic surgery: a case-control study of robotic versus conventional laparoscopic surgery for gastric cancer

Takahiro Kinoshita et al.

Summary: A retrospective study comparing robotic gastrectomy and laparoscopic gastrectomy found that robotic gastrectomy can reduce the incidence of postoperative complications, especially in technically complex procedures. Patients requiring demanding anastomosis or D2 lymphadenectomy may benefit most from robotic gastrectomy.

Long-term outcomes of robotic gastrectomy for clinical stage I gastric cancer: a single-center prospective phase II study

Makoto Hikage et al.

Summary: A prospective study on 120 patients with clinical stage I gastric cancer undergoing robotic gastrectomy showed favorable long-term outcomes, with 5-year overall survival, recurrence-free survival, and disease-specific survival rates reaching high levels. The outcomes were even more favorable when analyzing distal and pylorus-preserving gastrectomy.

Robotic Gastrectomy Compared with Laparoscopic Gastrectomy for Clinical Stage I/II Gastric Cancer Patients: A Propensity Score-Matched Analysis

Makoto Hikage et al.

Summary: Robotic gastrectomy (RG) showed better surgical outcomes and lower incidence of complications compared to conventional laparoscopic gastrectomy (LG) in clinical stage I/II gastric cancer patients. Both approaches resulted in equivalent survival rates.

Current status of robotic gastrectomy for gastric cancer: comparison with laparoscopic gastrectomy

Yoo Min Kim et al.

Summary: Robotic gastrectomy is increasingly used for gastric cancer treatment with advantages such as longer operation time and less blood loss. Studies have shown comparable long-term oncological outcomes between robotic and laparoscopic gastrectomy, indicating robotic gastrectomy is a safe procedure. However, high cost remains a major barrier for robotic surgery to become a routine treatment for gastric cancer patients.

Utility of a modified age-adjusted Charlson Comorbidity Index in predicting cause-specific survival among patients with gastric cancer

Yusuke Koseki et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that the modified age-adjusted Charlson Comorbidity Index (mACCI) is a better indicator of cause-specific survival (CSS) in patients with gastric cancer who underwent curative gastrectomy compared to the traditional ACCI. mACCI was identified as an independent prognostic factor for CSS.
