Nano-sized amorphous/semi-crystalline boron ratio and external Mg effects on transport and structural properties in MgB2 IMD wires

Hakan Yetis et al.

Summary: This study investigates the Mg diffusion process in MgB2 wires made with internal Mg diffusion (IMD) method, using transport measurements and surface morphology analysis. It is found that Mg coating is effective in improving the engineering current density of IMD wires, even in non-stoichiometric hybrid IMD wires containing excessive Mg.

Superconducting joints using multifilament MgB2 wires for MRI application

Dipak Patel et al.

Summary: The study introduced superconducting joints made with 36 filaments magnesium diboride wires, showing characteristics with a critical temperature of 34.4K and critical current of 38.5A at 10K. Unconventional behavior of the joint was observed at 20K due to field trapping in the MgB2 bulk.

Preparation of a small-size superconducting joint for C-doped 30-filament MgB2 wires

Dan Xi et al.

Summary: This paper presents a preparation method for a small-size MgB2 superconducting joint for C-doped 30-filament MgB2 wires. An unreacted in situ C-doped monofilament wire is used as the connecting structure, resulting in a joint with good stability and the ability to release heat quickly. The joint shows a superconducting transition with Tc-on = 33.49 K and negligible resistance below 30.56 K, with approximately 40% J(c) value of the parent 30-filament wire at 4.2 K.

Summary: In this study, mechanical and electrical characterization measurements were conducted on non-bent and gradually bent IMD MgB2/Fe superconducting round wires. The use of Mg coating in the wires was found to improve the transport and electromechanical properties, while the type of boron affected crack formation in the core regions.
