Performance of structural stainless steel following a fire

Tom Molkens et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on the post-fire condition of stainless steel elements, showing that they can be reinstated with minimal additional costs in a short time frame. Tensile tests were conducted on samples taken from loaded stainless steel beams previously examined under fire conditions, as well as on virgin coupons exposed to elevated temperatures. The study provides a detailed analysis of the mechanical properties of stainless steel after exposure to fire and proposes safety factors and a reduced reliability index based on economic and social considerations.

Linear elastic mode-based reliability approach for single-bay portal frames

Tom Molkens et al.

Summary: The semi-probabilistic design approach using partial safety factors is widely used in designing new industrial buildings. This paper focuses on describing the behavior of single-bay portal frames at a system level using an analytical reliability approach with dominant failure modes. The study introduces probability density functions and the Monte Carlo method to investigate the influence on the system's reliability level.
