Modeling and Speciation Study of Uranium(VI) and Technetium(VII) with TBP

Pauline Moeyaert et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the extraction mechanism of technetium with TBP in the PUREX process, with a particular emphasis on the structure of the uranium-technetium complex. The research reveals the existence of (HTcO4)(TBP)(n) and mixed UO2(NO3)(TcO4)(HNO3)(x)(TBP)(n) complexes in the organic phase. Through thermodynamic modeling and spectroscopic techniques, comprehensive characterization of uranium-technetium and uranium-rhenium mixed species can be achieved.

Selective Extraction and Complexation Studies for Thorium(IV) with Bis-triamide Extractants: Synthesis, Solvent Extraction, EXAFS, and DFT

Jinyang Kang et al.

Summary: The designed and synthesized three octyl-extended bis-triamide extractants show good extraction performance and selectivity for Th(IV) over U(VI), reaching extraction equilibrium within a short time. The separation factor of Th(IV) over U(VI) varies in a wide range of HNO3 concentrations, and the extracted complexes of L1 and L2 with Th are identified as [2L1 center dot Th center dot 3(NO3)](+) and [2L2 center dot Th center dot 3(NO3)](+) during the extraction process at 0.1 M HNO3 through EXAFS and DFT calculations.
