Se diffusion in CdTe thin films for photovoltaics

Eric Colegrove et al.

Summary: In this study, the diffusion kinetics of Se in CdTe were analyzed, revealing higher diffusion rates of Se during CdCl2 treatments and significantly faster diffusion rates at grain boundaries compared to bulk diffusion. These two effects result in near interface bulk and grain boundary Se diffusion dominating the bandgrading profiles in CdTe PVs during CdCl2 treatments.

Enhanced current collection of CdTe solar cells in the long wavelength region by co-evaporation deposition CdSexTe1-x films

Chuanqi Li et al.

Summary: The study focused on the effects of selenium composition in CdSexTe1-x films on the structure and properties, and their application in CdTe solar cells. The cut-off edge of the quantum efficiency curve in the long wavelength region depends on both the thickness of CdSexTe1-x film with specific Se composition and the preparation process of the solar cells. By using specific films and a back contact buffer layer, it is possible to achieve high short-circuit current density without the need for an antireflection layer.

Combinatorial study of the structural, optical, and electrical properties of low temperature deposited Cd1-xZnxTe (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) thin films by MOCVD

G. Kartopu et al.

Summary: Polycrystalline Cd1-xZnxTe thin films prepared by a combinatorial MOCVD process were characterized for their structural, optical, and electrical properties. The films showed smoother surfaces with smaller grains and increased sub bandgap transmittance with higher Zn concentration. X-ray diffraction indicated (111) texture and increasing compositional inhomogeneity for ternary compositions.

Structural and optical properties of CdSe0.2Te0.8 thin films prepared by radio frequency magnetron sputtering

Guangqiang He et al.

Summary: Cadmium chalcogenide thin films (CdSe0.2Te0.8) were successfully deposited on glass substrates by radio frequency magnetron sputtering, exhibiting a cubic zinc-blende structure with no secondary phases. The band gap of CdSe0.2Te0.8 varied slightly with film thickness in the range of 1.41-1.43 eV, making them potentially suitable for use as a photovoltaic absorption layer in ultra-thin solar cells.
