Diluted chemical bath deposition of CdZnS as prospective buffer layer in CIGS solar cell

F. T. Munna et al.

Summary: In this study, CdZnS thin films were deposited on soda-lime glass substrates using dilute chemical bath deposition technique. The research investigated the structural, morphological, and optoelectronic properties of the films as a function of different Zn2+ precursor concentrations. The results showed that the optical transparency of the film is influenced by Zn2+ concentration and the bandgap values varied from 2.42 eV to 3.90 eV with different Zn2+ concentrations. Moreover, the electrical properties indicated an increase in film resistivity with higher zinc concentrations.

Effect of buffer nature, absorber layer thickness and temperature on the performance of CISSe based solar cells, using SCAPS-1D simulation program

M. A. Ghebouli et al.

Summary: The performance of glass/Mo/CuInSSe(CISSe)/(Zn2SnO4, CdS, SnS2)/ZnO thin film structures for solar cells was studied, showing that CuInSSe absorber layer thin film solar cells have lower cost and comparable performance parameters to conventional cells. The temperature effect is less significant in solar cells with Zn2SnO4 buffer layer, and the average temperature gradient in CdS, SnS2, and Zn2SnO4 based cells was found to be -0.317 %/K, -0.533 %/K, and -0.539 %/K. The best performance with Zn2SnO4 buffer is attributed to its higher transmission in the short wavelength range due to its higher bandgap compared to CdS and SnS2.

High-efficiency CdTe-based thin-film solar cells with unltrathin CdS:O window layer and processes with post annealing

Anhong Hu et al.

Summary: The thickness of the CdS:O window layer is crucial for the performance of CdTe-based thin-film solar cells. Thinner layers enhance short wavelength response but may degrade V-oc and FF. This study demonstrates high efficiency cells with ultrathin CdS:O layers using a post annealing process.

A comparative study of CdS thin films grown on ultra-thin glass substrates by RF magnetron sputtering and chemical bath deposition

C. Doroody et al.

Summary: This study explores the characteristics of cadmium sulfide (CdS) thin films grown on ultra-thin glass substrates through RF magnetron sputtering and chemical bath deposition (CBD). The XRD analysis reveals a stable hexagonal wurtzite structure with (002) preferential orientation for both deposition methods. Optical analysis shows band gaps of 2.40 eV and 2.32 eV for sputtering and CBD methods, respectively. Overall, the experimental results suggest that CdS thin films grown by sputtering may be favorable as the window layer for solar cell applications.

Defect Density Control Using an Intrinsic Layer to Enhance Conversion Efficiency in an Optimized SnS Solar Cell

M. T. Islam et al.

Summary: A modification to the SnS/CdS solar cell structure is proposed to address the low experimental efficiency issue, aiming to control bulk recombination and interfacial recombination. Simulation of the optimized device structure shows substantial improvements in fill factor and open-circuit voltage, achieved by passivating bulk defects in the absorber layer and inserting an intrinsic layer at the interface.
