Thermal performance improvement of an indirect solar dryer with tube-type absorber packed with aluminum wool

Adnan Sozen et al.

Summary: Recent years have seen a rise in the demand for energy and a push towards utilizing renewable and sustainable energy sources, with solar thermal systems playing a key role in generating clean electricity and thermal energy. This study developed a single pass heater with tube-type absorber, using numerical simulations to optimize the absorber plate's shape and placement. Addition of aluminum wool into the tubes improved thermal efficiency, leading to a 30% reduction in drying time and enhanced performance in the modified dryer compared to unmodified dryer.

Enhanced heat transfer characteristics of water based hybrid nanofluids with graphene nanoplatelets and multi walled carbon nanotubes

T. Balaji et al.

Summary: The study found that the thermal conductivity of the 0.2% volume concentration hybrid nanofluid was 25% higher than the base fluid, and the convective heat transfer coefficient was increased by 85%, resulting in a 12-degree Celsius reduction in heat sink temperature. The friction factor during nanofluid flow remained nearly constant with respect to Reynolds number and volume concentration of the nanomaterials, indicating no penalty in pressure drop with the addition of nanomaterials. The results demonstrate that the hybrid nanofluid (Graphene Nanoplatelets /Multi Walled Carbon Nanotubes-water) is an effective coolant for electronic cooling applications.
