Summary: This study characterized two samples with slightly different oxygen : metal ratios using various electron microscopy methods and X-ray diffraction. The Rietveld refinement showed good fit for both samples, revealing structural differences between Nb8W9O47 and Nb7W10O47.5. The complex real structure of Nb7W10O47.5 was distinct from the pure phase crystal structure of Nb8W9O47.

Ten Thousand-Cycle Ultrafast Energy Storage of Wadsley-Roth Phase Fe-Nb Oxides with a Desolvation Promoting Interfacial Layer

Yang Yang et al.

Summary: The nitridation layer designed on the surface of Wadsley-Roth phase FeNb11O29 can efficiently improve the adsorption and desolvation of solvated Li+, reduce the energy barrier, prevent solvent cointercalation, and reduce volume change of lattice cell during cycling. As a result, FNO-x@N exhibits a high-rate capacity of 129.7 mAh g(-1) with negligible capacity decay for 10,000 cycles.

Nanoburl Graphites

Kunpeng Lin et al.

Summary: The study introduces a nanoburl mechanism to enhance the strength of graphite by embedding nanodiamond particles converted into graphite onions in the graphite lattice planes. By building covalent bonds and forming positive/negative charge domains at the interface between graphite onions and flakes, the bonding between them is strengthened, leading to a consolidation of loose compaction of graphite powder. The proposed mechanism has shown its potential by increasing the strength of graphite five times compared to conventional methods, and may have implications for enhancing the properties of other layered materials.

High Rate Lithium Ion Battery with Niobium Tungsten Oxide Anode

Yumi Kim et al.

Summary: Highly stable lithium-ion battery cycling is demonstrated with niobium tungsten oxide (NWO) in full cells using LiNi0.6Mn0.2Co0.2O2 (NMC-622) and LiFePO4 (LFP) as cathode materials. The cells show high rate performance and long-term stability under 5 C and 10 C cycling rates. The degradation of the cell performance is attributed to increased charge transfer resistance at the NMC side, while NWO shows structural stability and minimal electrolyte decomposition during cycling.
