Competitive adsorption of methanol co-solvent and dioctyl phthalate on functionalized graphene sheet: Integrated investigation by molecular dynamics simulations and quantum chemical calculations

Peng Yi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the competitive adsorption of dioctyl phthalate (DOP) on functionalized graphene sheet in a water-methanol co-solvent system using molecular dynamics simulations and quantum chemical calculations. The findings showed that functional groups in the graphene defects had a strong adsorption affinity for methanol, weakening DOP adsorption. The -COOH functional group had the strongest binding affinity for methanol and predominantly controlled the interaction between graphene and methanol.

To Mimic Mechanical Properties of the Skin by Inducing Oriented Nanofiber Microstructures in Bottlebrush Cellulose-graft-diblock Copolymer Elastomers

Juan Zhang et al.

Summary: In order to mimic the mechanical behaviors of skin, a reprocessable bottlebrush copolymer elastomer was designed with renewable and rigid cellulose as backbones, while poly(n-butyl acrylate)-b-poly(methyl methacrylate) (PBA-b-PMMA) diblocks were designed as grafted side chains. The resulting elastomers underwent a step-cyclic tensile deformation, leading to internal structures becoming oriented nanofibers and exhibiting stress-strain behaviors similar to real skin. Our current research work is expected to be important in the development of a series of biomimetic skinlike polymer materials.

Photonic Vitrimer Elastomer with Self-Healing, High Toughness, Mechanochromism, and Excellent Durability based on Dynamic Covalent Bond

Wenbin Niu et al.

Summary: Vitrimers with dynamic covalent bonds show self-healability and mechanical robustness, but their potential for optical function recovery is underexplored. A novel photonic vitrimer combining photonic crystals and vitrimers exhibits high mechanical stability, creep-resistance, and self-healing ability, making it suitable for sensory applications and interactive devices. This material design provides a general strategy for functionalizing vitrimers optically, showing promise for soft robotics, wearable devices, and human-machine interaction.
