Efficient removal of selenate in water by cationic poly (allyltrimethylammonium) grafted chitosan and biochar composite

Lixun Zhang et al.

Summary: A new composite material composed of poly(allyltrimethylammonium) grafted chitosan and biochar was introduced for efficient removal of selenate from water, exhibiting rapid and high-capacity adsorption with a pseudo-second-order kinetics model. The material showed great potential for removing anionic heavy metal ions due to its high efficiency and versatile application in a wide pH range. The main mechanisms of selenate removal were attributed to electrostatic interactions and redox-complexation interactions with specific functional groups on the composite.

Synthesis of Three-Dimensional Hierarchical Flower-Like Mg-Al Layered Double Hydroxides with Excellent Adsorption Performance for Organic Anionic Dyes

Luhong Zhang et al.

Summary: A facile and effective strategy was developed to prepare 3D hierarchical flower-like Mg-Al layered double hydroxides using gamma-Al2O3 particles as a template. The calcined product showed excellent adsorption performance for organic anionic dyes, with maximum adsorption capacities superior to most reported adsorbents. The adsorption mechanism was attributed to surface adsorption, memory effect, and unique 3D hierarchical flower-like structure of the adsorbent, demonstrating satisfactory reusability through recycling performance tests.
