A novel one-step strategy for extraction and solidification of Th(IV) based on self-assembly driven by malonamide-based [DC18DMA]+ ionic liquids

Qiang Wu et al.

Summary: Three novel [DC(18)DMA](+) ionic liquids were synthesized for the extraction of thorium ions, showing high extraction efficiency and selectivity. The self-assembly extraction process based on [DC(18)DMA](+) ILs may provide a new method for the separation and enrichment of thorium ions.

The separation of thorium and rare earth elements using [A336][NO3]: insight into a new extraction mechanism

Xuan Fu et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the extraction and separation of thorium(IV) and representative rare earths in HNO3 media using an ionic liquid. A novel extraction mechanism was identified based on slope analysis and ESI-MS spectrum, indicating that the trimer of [A336][NO3] dominates the extraction reaction. The extraction efficiency of La(III), Eu(III) and Lu(III) by [A336][NO3] is much lower than Th(IV) in acid medium, suggesting the possibility of separating thorium from rare earths or rare earth ores using [A336][NO3].

Tunable self-assembled Casimir microcavities and polaritons

Battulga Munkhbat et al.

Summary: This study introduces a method for stable microcavity formation based on self-assembly of gold nanoflake pairs in an aqueous solution, utilizing the equilibrium between attractive Casimir forces and repulsive electrostatic forces. The system allows for tunable optical microcavities with adjustable equilibrium configurations, enabling the realization of hybrid light-matter states. These Casimir microcavities could potentially be used in opto-mechanics, nanomachinery, and cavity-induced polaritonic chemistry.
