Summary: Ionic liquids (ILs) show potential for high-temperature applications, but isothermal decomposition data is necessary to truly evaluate their thermal stability. Most ILs experience significant mass loss even at temperatures 100 K below the decomposition temperature determined from dynamic measurements. ILs with the [Tf2N]- anion display zero order mass loss, indicating primarily evaporation rather than decomposition.
