Role of reactive nitrogen species in ranitidine degradation in UV/chloramine process: Transformation pathways and NDMA formation

Yangtao Wu et al.

Summary: The UV/chloramine process can effectively degrade RAN, with HO· being the main radical involved in degradation and RNS also contributing to the process. However, the degradation of RAN in the UV/chloramine process can be inhibited by increasing concentrations of HCO3-, Cl-, and NO3-, chloramine dosage, solution pH, and natural organic matter.

Degradation of neurotoxin β-N-methylamino-L-alanine by UV254 activated persulfate: Kinetic model and reaction pathways

Boyin Yan et al.

Summary: The degradation of BMAA in the UV254/persulfate system follows a pseudofirst-order kinetic model, with SO4· identified as the major radical contributing to the degradation. The pH significantly affects the degradation rate, with the highest rate achieved at pH 8. However, the presence of water matrix components inhibits the degradation process.

Elimination of 13-N-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA) during UV/chlorine process: Influence factors, transformation pathway and DBP formation

Julong Sun et al.

Summary: This study investigated the degradation of BMAA by UV/chlorine process and found that it was more effective than using UV or chlorine alone. The reaction rates were increased under alkaline conditions, with BMAA being completely degraded in 5 minutes. NOM had a significant inhibitory effect on the degradation of BMAA.

Formation of disinfection byproducts during chlorination of mixed nitrogenous compounds in swimming pools

Fangyuan Peng et al.

Summary: Studies have shown that tryptophan has the highest DBP formation potential during chlorination of mixed precursors in swimming pools; urea and ammonia restrain the formation of C-DBPs but promote the formation of more toxic N-DBPs; under all experimental conditions, C-DBP yields were significantly higher than N-DBP yields.

Photodegradation of cyanotoxins in surface waters

Tyler Kurtz et al.

Summary: Cyanotoxin-producing harmful algal blooms are a global threat to humans and animals, impacting water use for drinking and recreation. Photodegradation plays a crucial role in degrading cyanotoxins, with sensitized and direct photolysis pathways being important factors to consider.

Ion exchange and vacuum UV: A combined approach for removing organic matter and microcystins from natural waters

Fuhar Dixit et al.

Summary: The study shows that the combined application of ion exchange resins and vacuum ultraviolet light can effectively remove organic matter and microcystin-LR from natural waters, improving the degradation rate of MCLR. By pre-treating with IX resins, a significant reduction in energy consumption and chlorine demand for surface waters was achieved.

Assessment of the UV/Chlorine Process in the Disinfection of Pseudomonas aeruginosa: Efficiency and Mechanism

Liping Wang et al.

Summary: The UV/chlorine process effectively reduced the number of culturable cells in drinking water disinfection, eliminated viable but nonculturable bacteria, and showed better metabolic activity. Additionally, it successfully suppressed bacterial dark reactivation.
