Novel lignin-based single atom catalysts as peroxymonosulfate activator for pollutants degradation: Role of single cobalt and electron transfer pathway

Yuanfeng Qi et al.

Summary: A nitrogen coordinated Co single-atom catalyst was fabricated using lignin as carbon sources through a one-pot pyrolytic strategy. The isolated Co atoms in the SA Co-N/C architecture served as the main active sites for naproxen degradation, exhibiting exceptional performance with a high turnover frequency. Electron transfer induced by the single-atom Co sites was identified as the dominated mechanism for the NPX degradation.

Singlet oxygen-dominated activation of peroxymonosulfate by passion fruit shell derived biochar for catalytic degradation of tetracycline through a non-radical oxidation pathway

Yi Hu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the pyrolysis temperature can influence the efficiency of passion fruit shell derived biochar (PFSC) for activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS) to degrade tetracycline hydrochloride (TC), with the PFSC-900/PMS system showing high catalytic performance mainly due to the non-free radical reaction pathway. This research not only showcases biochar as an efficient catalyst for PMS activation, but also provides a value-added reuse pathway for passion fruit shells.

Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2): A novel activator of peracetic acid for the degradation of sulfonamide antibiotics

Jingwen Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel advanced oxidation process using MoS2/PAA was applied to degrade sulfonamide antibiotics (SAs), with sulfamethoxazole (SMX) as the target SA. Results showed that under optimum pH conditions, the degradation efficiency of SMX exceeded 80% after 15 minutes of reaction. Increasing the dosages of PAA or MoS2 facilitated SMX degradation, while the presence of humic acids slowed down the removal of SMX.
