Numerical investigation of nanoparticle deposition location and pattern on a sharp-bent tube wall

Dong-Bin Kwak et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the fluid flow characteristics on a sharp-bent tube under different conditions and conducted numerical simulations to analyze particle deposition patterns. It was found that most nanoparticles were deposited on the outer wall right after the bending point in the sharp-bent tube, and the differences in relative deposition efficiency along the azimuthal angles were reduced as Reynolds number increased.

Effects of Swirl and Boiling Heat Transfer on the Performance Enhancement and Emission Reduction for a Medium Diesel Engine Fueled with Biodiesel

Dongli Tan et al.

Summary: The new heat transfer model in the AVL-Boost software considers the effects of swirl and boiling heat transfer inside engines, as well as a chemical kinetics mechanism for predicting biodiesel combustion. The study compares the relative effects of different parameters on engine performance and emissions, finding that injected fuel mass plays a crucial role in emissions and performance.

Ceria-based catalytic coatings on biomorphic silicon carbide: A system for soot oxidation with enhanced properties

M. Pilar Orihuela et al.

Summary: This study utilized biomorphic silicon carbide to fabricate a wall-flow filter with ceria-based catalytic coatings of two different morphologies, demonstrating a reduction in regeneration temperature and enhanced soot oxidation. The influence of substrate arrangement on regeneration performance and oxidative capacity of the coating was analyzed, offering possibilities for further reducing soot oxidation temperature through engineered ceria morphology and optimal substrate arrangement.

Study on Droplet Dispersion Influenced by Ventilation and Source Configuration in Classroom Settings Using Low-cost Sensor Network

Weiqi Chen et al.

Summary: The study found that using a low-cost sensor network for spatiotemporal air monitoring can greatly impact indoor particle concentration levels and distribution, which are strongly influenced by ventilation settings and source locations. Two recommendations were proposed to reduce the viral risk in the classroom: positioning respiratory droplet sources (such as instructors) in opposition to the ventilation flow, and keeping both the air handling unit (AHU) and fan coil unit (FCU) on during class hours to ensure higher and more uniform ventilation flow and eliminate dead air zones.
