Toward the Recovery of Platinum Group Metals from a Spent Automotive Catalyst with Supported Ionic Liquid Phases

Olga Lanaridi et al.

Summary: The polySILP material showed the capability to separate PGMs from major accompanying interferences in a single separation step, while avoiding problems arising from ionic liquid leaching in the case of SILPs. The use of supported ionic liquid phases allowed a significant reduction in the amount of required ionic liquid compared to conventional liquid-liquid separation, while preventing issues related to emulsion formation. Subsequent stripping experiments further purified the PGMs and facilitated their desorption from the solid material into a pure solution, illustrating a new and convenient approach for recycling platinum group metals through the concept of chemisorbed polySILPs.

Liquid-liquid extraction of phosphorus from sulfuric acid solution using benzyl dimethyl amine

Sadia Ilyas et al.

Summary: This study investigates the liquid-liquid extraction behavior of phosphorus from a sulfuric acid solution using BDMA in kerosene, demonstrating the formation of a 3[BDMA].[H3PO4] over bar complex in the organic phase. Thermodynamic properties show that the extraction process is exothermic, and the McCabe-Thiele diagram confirms the need for three counter-current stages in the extraction at a specific O/A volume ratio. Additionally, quantitative back-extraction of phosphorus from the loaded organic phase is achieved by contacting H2SO4 solution in three stages of counter-current contact at a specific O/A volume ratio.

Gold recovery from secondary waste of PCBs by electro-Cl2 leaching in brine solution and solvo-chemical separation with tri-butyl phosphate

Sadia Ilyas et al.

Summary: This study investigated sustainable recycling of gold from the secondary stream of waste printed circuit boards using brine leaching with electro-Cl-2 and solvo-chemical strategies. The gold leaching efficiency reached over 99% under specific conditions, and the study successfully eliminated the use of highly toxic lixiviants in gold metallurgy while promoting the regeneration and reusability of the organic solvent TBP.

Hydrometallurgical Recycling of Rare Earth Metal-Cerium from Bio-processed Residual Waste of Exhausted Automobile Catalysts

Sadia Ilyas et al.

Summary: The study examined the hydrometallurgical recycling of cerium from exhausted auto-catalyst secondary residue. By introducing HF into a 2.0 mol/L H2SO4 solution, cerium dissolution was significantly improved. Using Cyanex 923, high-purity cerium precipitate was obtained.
