Degradation of nitrogen-containing hazardous compounds using advanced oxidation processes: A review on aliphatic and aromatic amines, dyes, and pesticides

Akash P. Bhat et al.

Summary: This article introduces advanced oxidation processes for the degradation of nitrogen-containing amino and azo compounds, summarizing the degradation efficiency, reaction mechanisms, treatment parameters, and intermediates of various categories of compounds. Highly ozone-reactive compounds include aromatic amines, aliphatic amines, N-containing dyes, and N-containing pesticides. Hybrid methods show synergistic effects and must be tailored for specific effluents.

Acoustic and hydrodynamic cavitation assisted hydrolysis and valorisation of waste human hair for the enrichment of amino acids

Akash P. Bhat et al.

Summary: Hair waste in India is a significant issue, with concerns about environmental impact from incineration and degradation. The use of acoustic and hydrodynamic cavitation for hair hydrolysis shows promise in enhancing the nutritional value and digestibility of the resulting hydrolysate. Potential applications include improving soil quality as a fertilizer and providing essential amino acids for animal feed in an environmentally friendly and cost-effective manner.

Degradation of Acid Violet 19 textile dye by electro-peroxone in a laboratory flow plant

Oscar M. Cornejo et al.

Summary: This study investigated the degradation of Acid Violet 19 (AV19) textile dye using the electro-peroxone process in a laboratory flow plant. The combination of H2O2 generation and O3 production led to efficient discoloration and mineralization of the dye, with E-peroxone showing superior oxidation power compared to anodic oxidation plus H2O2 and ozonation. Three carboxylic acids were identified as the oxidation end products.

Treatment of acid violet 7 dye containing effluent using the hybrid approach based on hydrodynamic cavitation

N. J. Lakshmi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the degradation of Acid violet-7 dye using hydrodynamic cavitation (HC) in combination with advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). The combination of HC and Fenton oxidation was found to be the most effective in degrading the dye, surpassing other combined oxidation processes.

Application of hybrid oxidative processes based on cavitation for the treatment of commercial dye industry effluents

Swapnil K. Gujar et al.

Summary: The research demonstrates the significant role of ultrasound in enhancing the efficacy of Fenton reagent and/or ozone for the treatment of industrial dye effluent, providing guidelines for optimal operating parameters. Experimental study shows that combined approaches of ultrasound with ozone and Fenton's reagent can achieve high COD reduction, with ultrasound + Fenton followed by lime treatment established as the most effective approach.

Performance verification of different advanced oxidation processes in the degradation of the dye acid violet 17: reaction kinetics, toxicity and degradation prediction by artificial neural networks

Nathalia F. S. de Moraes et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the degradation of dye AV17 and found that the photoperoxidation/UV-C system was more efficient, while the Fenton process and the photo-Fenton/solar system only promoted discoloration of the solution. Toxicity tests showed that photoperoxidation/UV-C and photo-Fenton/solar treatments reduced toxicity, while Fenton treatment resulted in toxicity.
