Effects of ambient parameters and cross-sensitivities from O2, CO2 and H2O on the photoacoustic detection of acetone in the UV region

Stefan Weigl et al.

Summary: The study presents a sensitive UV LED photoacoustic setup for detecting gaseous acetone and explores its potential for breath analysis. Performance of the sensor for low acetone concentrations was investigated, and various factors influencing the measured signal were examined. Cross-sensitivities towards O-2, CO2 and H2O were extensively studied as well. The sensor demonstrated high potential for acetone detection in human breath analysis, with a limit of detection of 12.5 ppbV under typical breath exhale gas mixture conditions.
