Intermittent dynamical state switching in discrete-mode semiconductor lasers subject to optical feedback

Zhuqiang Zhong et al.

Summary: The study investigates the intermittent dynamics switching on the route to chaos in a discrete-mode laser with long time-delayed feedback, revealing two types of dynamics switching and analyzing the relationship between the duty cycle of period-one oscillation and the feedback ratio. A map of the dynamics distribution in the parameter space of feedback ratio and bias current is plotted for a better understanding of dynamics evolution in long external cavity discrete-mode lasers.

An All-Fiber Self-Mixing Range Finder With Tunable Fiber Ring Cavity Laser Source

Yunkun Zhao et al.

Summary: In this article, an all-fiber laser self-mixing rangefinder was proposed using a fabricated tunable fiber ring cavity laser and a wide-band tunable fiber Fabry-Perot filter as the frequency selective device. The measurement results showed superior reliability with absolute error and relative error below +/- 0.047 m and 0.32% respectively within the 15 m range. The wavelength tuning range and frequency were controlled by adjusting the modulation signal introduced into the tunable fiber Fabry-Perot filter.

Stable-unstable switching dynamics in semiconductor lasers with external cavities

Jia-Xin Dong et al.

Summary: The study successfully generated photonic microwave square-wave signals using optical feedback in a semiconductor laser. The Lang-Kobayashi model verified the stable-unstable switching dynamics and derived the analytical Hopf boundary for the minimum linewidth mode. Analysis of the trajectory in the stable stage revealed that the laser follows an ellipse while visiting different external cavity modes. The expansion of the switching period explained the generation of a shifted frequency component below 1/tau in quasiperiodic laser dynamics.
