Fetal heart rate estimation by non-invasive single abdominal electrocardiography in real clinical conditions

Nafissa Dia et al.

Summary: The novel methodology of using a single abdominal ECG derivation for FHR estimation demonstrates high reliability and similarity to the reference CTG in real clinical conditions, outperforming other existing methods. Validation on real clinical data supports the promising potential for routine practice in hospital departments.

The present and future of intrapartum computerized cardiotocography: role of pattern recognition incorporating single vs. multiple parameters

Shashikant L. Sholapurkar

Summary: Computer assisted cardiotocography has potential to minimize human errors and improve perinatal outcomes, but this potential has yet to be fully realized. Current systematic analyses of computerized cardiotocography studies offer limited guidance for the future, indicating a need for more qualitative discussion and exploration of available evidence.

Cumulative deceleration area: a simplified predictor of metabolic acidemia

Abby Furukawa et al.

Summary: This study compared the evolution and discrimination performance of deceleration area and other FHR patterns in late labor. Results showed that deceleration area was the most effective marker of metabolic acidemia, outperforming baseline level, baseline variability, and number of late decelerations. Increased deceleration area over the last two hours before delivery in the acidemia group indicates the clinical importance of the cumulative area and persistence of repetitive decelerations.

Relationship Between Deceleration Morphology and Phase Rectified Signal Averaging-Based Parameters During Labor

Massimo W. Rivolta et al.

Summary: The study revealed that hypoxic fetuses have a longer response time and larger asymmetry in deceleration morphology in response to umbilical cord occlusions (UCOs) compared to normoxic fetuses. Furthermore, the analysis showed that acceleration capacity (AC), deceleration capacity (DC), and deceleration reserve (DR) were correlated with morphological parameters, suggesting the potential translational application of this methodology on human data.

Characteristics of Heart Rate Tracings in Preterm Fetus

Maria F. Hurtado-Sanchez et al.

Summary: Premature infants exhibit characteristic changes in their FHR tracings, such as slightly higher baseline FHR, faster heart rate, lower variability, and more frequent transient low-amplitude decelerations. Understanding these changes is crucial for accurate interpretation of CTG patterns in preterm fetuses.
