Effects of calcium treatment on malate metabolism and γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) pathway in postharvest apple fruit

Shoukun Han et al.

Summary: Calcium treatment preserved the quality of apple fruit by slowing down the decline in malate content, reducing respiration rate and ethylene production, and enhancing the activity of the GABA pathway.

MdCAX affects the development of the 'Honeycrisp' bitter pit by influencing abnormal Ca distribution

Jia Liu et al.

Summary: The study identified differences in mineral contents and gene expression related to calcium transport in different parts of apple fruit affected by bitter pit (BP). MdCAX11 and MdCAX5 were found to transport calcium to vacuoles, which may contribute to the occurrence of BP. Subcellular localization analysis confirmed the localization of MdCAX11 and MdCAX5 on the vacuole membrane.
