Aggregation kinetics of fragmental PET nanoplastics in aqueous environment: Complex roles of electrolytes, pH and humic acid

Shunan Dong et al.

Summary: The aggregation kinetics of fragmental polyethylene glycol terephthalate (PET) nanoplastics in aqueous environment were studied under various chemistry conditions. It was found that the aggregation of PET nanoplastics increased with higher electrolyte concentrations and lower solution pH, especially in the presence of divalent cations. Additionally, the presence of humic acid was shown to significantly inhibit the aggregation of PET nanoplastics.

Adsorption by Granular Activated Carbon and Nano Zerovalent Iron from Wastewater: A Study on Removal of Selenomethionine and Selenocysteine

Stanley Onyinye Okonji et al.

Summary: Selenomethionine and selenocysteine are common forms of organic selenium that are often found in industrial wastewater. This study examined the removal of these compounds using granular activated carbon (GAC) and nano zerovalent iron (nZVI) as adsorbents, with GAC demonstrating higher affinity for SeMet and SeCys removal. The kinetics data followed the pseudo-second order model, and the competitive interaction between the two compounds had an inhibitory effect on adsorption.

Research progress of nanoplastics in freshwater

Bin Zhang et al.

Summary: With the increased production and use of plastic products, environmental pollution due to their continuous entry into water environments is a growing concern. While microplastics have been the focus of many studies, nanoplastics (NPs) have received less attention despite their smaller size and potential greater harm to organisms. This paper summarizes the environmental fate of NPs, the current techniques for their extraction and characterization, and the toxic effects NPs may have on biological organisms. Further research is needed to fully understand the impact of NPs on the environment and living organisms.
