Fish farming, metals and antibiotics in the eastern Mediterranean Sea: Is there a threat to sediment wildlife?

Ioanna Kalantzi et al.

Summary: This study assessed the pollution status of marine sediments near aquaculture farms in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, finding that most elements originated from geological sources. The potential ecological risk of certain metals close to fish cages was low, except for Cd in some sampled fish farms. Antibiotics were found to be rare in sediments below fish farms in this region.
